Video Redux and reuse Workshop Resources: [1 x 3 hour session]

Greg Hall of the Beta Brothers is going to run a workshop on creating subversive adverts. These take found footage and twist the meaning to create an underground take on reality. We are looking to create a video bank of materials that can be used by people coming to the workshops. Please indicate if you would be prepared for your work to be used in this process.

Includes a 45 minutes lesson of how to download video from you tube and edit it.

The end products will be made available with a not for profit, copy and distribute licence.

Video production 101

A beginners guide to using a low-cost camera and a Mac to edit video. We'll look at getting good sound with internal and external microphones, getting good colour, interview technique. Then we'll teach you how to transfer the Video to the computer and give you a beginner lesson in editing.

Video Encoding

This is the key point of Internet distribution. Once your positive content is encoded it can be copied and distributed all over the world without limits. You can be the person to set that video free! We look at how to use a Mac and Micro$oft to encode Video for the Internet and DVD's using Free Software . If someone wants to bring a linux computer that can capture Video, get in contact, and we can have a go at that too afterwards. This is a key workshop for putting video online in any format even youtube!

DVD production with Subtitles using Free Software. [Mac] [1 x 2 hour session]

We're going to create a subtitled DVD with with Free Software. A lot of the time people who have trouble understanding DVD's without subtitles get left out of low-budget , or local video productions but with DVD technology including subtitles is much easier than you might think. [ffmpegx, jumbler]

Using Drupal to set up websites and online communities [linux]

These 2 sessions are an introduction to the tools you need for working with php based websites and tools like Drupal and phpBB bulletin board. It will focus on the web based tools for setting up websites and communities very quickly and cleanly including audio and video distribution sites. This is just an introduction but if people are interested we could link up for a continuing group.

Making a Linux Video Archive Jukebox

These 2 hours include a 45 minute demo of how to set up a debian box as a networked video archive drive.
The rest a brainstorming session. With lots of people learning debian server technology, and Video content Management systems getting more and more sophisticated. What is the best and easiest way to make a Video Jukebox where you can watch videos, choose the ones you like and the burn them to DVD with little or no knowledge of the operating system or specialised applications. We look at examples from existing “free networks” that share their content.

Video/ Radio Podcasting aka Create your own on-line TV Channel / Radio [Mac / pc / Linux ]

Video podcasting or Vodcasting is a bit of media revolution when you come to think of it. Radio has always been a good way for communities to keep in contact. Video, even if you could make it, has always been really expensive to distribute independently. With radical content rarely on TV.

There are a lot of good skills involved in this process. We are looking at audio as well as video here as it is quicker to work with. In this 3 part workshop you will learn.

  • What a Podcast is and what you do with it.
  • How to record and edit a short radio program.
  • How to make an mp3
  • Easy video encoding
  • How to upload audio / video to the Internet and make it available as a podcast.

At the end of the workshop you will be fully qualified to take part in the next media revolution be one of the ten of thousands of people creating their own Internet TV channel. [More than likely it's going to shut down the Internet and generally spoil it for the rest of us. :) ]
